Today I woke up late! I left my HP in the car the night before so I did not have my second alarm clock around. I need at least 2 alarm clocks. Rushed like crazy.. To make matters worse, I used a brush instead of my comb and my hair got entwined in it.. I couldn't free myself from the evil grasp of the brush and I had to resort to cutting my hair.. nearly 3 inches of it..dropped to the floor. I cried in dismay.. so upsetting! Now my beautiful, soft ,rebonded hair is not nice anymore.. boo hoooo!!!
I reached school at 7.22am. made it just in time. I went up to the classroom. To my dismay, not everyone was around and I was upset. I am stickler for pupils' attendance and punctuality and I was disappointed that they did not even turn up for T Day. Apparently, later I learnt that a lot of them were late. :(.. in the past, all of my pupils will turn up for T day.. at least they have some form of respect for their teachers...
And.. one of my pupils had to make me even more upset.. early in the morning had to show me bad attitude .. dun want to elaborate on his act but it really made my blood boil. I lost it.. I didn't mean to but I was really irate! I screamed my head off and rushed off to the staffroom. I had to. I had to seek refuge in the cool confines of the staffroom.
I ran to the toilet and locked myself in there for 5 min. I told myself to cool down and sometimes it is not worth it to get ourselves so worked up.. But I was upset.. It is Teachers' Day.. I dun expect gifts but I expect some basic courtesy and respect especially when I have done so much for the class. Disappointment.. anger.... and sadness.. ..welled up in me.
When I calmed myself down somewhat, I went back to my seat. I learnt from Kp and Lewin that the gals in my class were truly apologetic and wanted to see me, but I couldn't face them yet.. I was not angry with them of course but I was a tad embarrassed for losing my cool... Later, the boy smsed me and was realy sincere about it. I smsed him back. I may get angry fast but I dun stay angry for long.
Later, in the day however, I was very touched by the cards(I love receiving cards more than anything else and I keep all of them) I have received especially from this ex-pupil, Willis.. it brought tears to my eyes after reading it. I read it and re- read it again.. I didn't expect it from him.. he was a very quiet boy who hardly spoke to me when he was in school but now his words really moved me.. He told me that I have spurred him on to believe in himself.. I didn't know that I had left a mark in his life. I was deeply touched.
I was also happy to receive gifts ( cookies, softtoy) from some of the gals in my class.. so sweet.. I didn't expect it because I know they were very busy with their prelims.. Really appreciate their thougthful gestures. Thanks Darren for being the first person to wish me Happy T Day! and 43 really surprised me when they presented all the teachers who taught them with MEDALS. so creative.. again I was very touched.. Their form teacher cried when they presented her with the gifts and I teared a little.. so much crying for one day...
I will miss 43 immensely when they go.. I truly, deeply, madly enjoy teaching them...
The best part of T day was that all my beautiful ex pupils came back and visited me! I was very moved! Hey.. I must have done something right! I really missed them. They were such good kids.. pupils from 4D(2006), 42(2006), 5A(2006), Band 1 (2005) and last but not the least 41(2004) My form class 41 (2004)always comes back without fail for T day! I am so proud of them.. of what they have become.... some in NS, some in the uni and poly...When I see them, I think of all the happy memories we once shared. Cool! 42 was also a naughty class but I love them nonetheless.. I still remember all the sweet things they have done for me.. I still have the gargantuan pooh bear and the 'I love Jedichung' pictures... They were always so appreciative and sweet. 5A was my favourite.. I taught them for 3 years and I have great rapport with a lot of them in the class.. I remember the times when we would crack jokes,swop gossip about who is dating who but what i like most about them is their child-likeness and willingness to work hard. They were a bunch of playful yet diligent pupils.. I will never forget pupils like Kian Teck, Vicki, Jun Hui, Choon Song, Renee, Kat... They were really attentive in class.. ask a lot of questions and were so passionate about learning.I have never met students like them before.. Of course.. I can't forget Katrine, Eloys, Cheryl, Samantha and Jaselin and their playful antics... how they used to crack me up... I also remember Lebin, Chin Jie, Wei lie and Benson and how they helped me in my doggy rescue work.. how we put up the poor pup at eloy's place....
Time flies... I am already 30.. When I first joined teaching, I was 23.. young, innocent and SLIM!!!! Looking back, I didn't change much. I still believe in touching lives and changing them. I really like being a teacher... helping kids see the importance of a good education, motivating them to do good.. I wish all my pupils be it current or ex all ze best in all their endeavours. Thank you for making my T day memorable...
