I had a wonderful time with my ex pupils last week. They are my favourite batch of pupils so they have the privilege of being the first group of pupils ever invited to my place. They have grown so much and are now so mature!I am so proud of them! Here're the pictures!

I went to Taiwan(Taipei) from 12 Dec to 18 Dec. The weather was superb- cool and windy. I had fun browsing the Night markets like Shilin which was the biggest, Shida where things were rather cheap and Gongguan where a huge variety of food was sold. However, I did not really enjoy Taiwanese food. Almost everything was fried.. very oily..but I do love the mee sua. Also, things were rather ex.. I bought about 4 earrings, a necklace and some knick knacks. But they were rather expensive.. I didn't buy much.. Didn't even use the extra luggage that I had brought along :(
We went for a one-day tour and had fun. Visited beautiful Yeliu(saw many natural rock forms), Cultural Jiu Feng and some shops where I bought a small tin of green tea for OMG SGD$90.. Apparently it is very good for removing the oily contents from your stomach!!! I learnt about tea drinking in Taiwan and bought some home. Good tea is really different- very smooth and there is no bitter aftertaste... I also went to the Beitou Hot springs.. really shiok man to dip in hot spring water on a cold day.. I shared a room with Cal. The good thing is that we are alone but it is a tad boring because there is no scenic view... I heard if you go to a public pool, you may get to admire the beautiful Taipei scenery. But our hot spring dip was arranged by the tour agent so we can't choose.
On the last night in Taiwan, I decided to be adventurous and tried a lot of food from the road side stalls.. and I suffered throughout the night.. Was nauseous and vomited.. At first , I thought I had indigestion. But my stomach churned the whole night.... the Pharmicist said it is stomach flu but I feel it is food poisioning. Thank God it only happened on the last day of my visit.
What I love about Taiwan is that the people there are really nice and polite. They seem very honest and helpful. The salespeople are very polite, friendly and they dun get upset when you dun buy anything. People there are very considerate. They give way, stand on one side on the escalator so that others can overtake them..They dun have the ugly Singaporean 'kiasu' attitude.. they dun push and jump queue! Also they love dogs. The dogs is Taipei get to accompany their owners almost everywhere. I have never seen so many pet dogs in a mall or night market before. I even watched a street performance where this man brought 13 dogs out and get them to perform simple tricks.
On the whole, Taipei is a lovely city with really polite and friendly people. You can't tell a Singaporean and a Taiwanese apart until the Singaporean opens his mouth and sprouts Singlish. However, for a shopaholic like myself..I left Taipei rather empty-handed and sick.

Today I caught up with some uni friends whom I met in Church many years ago. It has been so long since I last met them ... maybe a year ago. But when we sat down, we talked like we had just met a week ago. I love them. They are such sincere, funny, kind people - the nicest friends ever. We had so much to say and gossiped about. Our bonds are still strong and there were no awkward moments. You know sometimes when you meet up with some pals whom you have not met for some time, there might be some awkward moments. But there was none tonight. We are still the same. We talk the same way. Some of us even look the same.. so slim.. I am very envious!
Anyway, I told myself today, 'Friendships are so important especially when you have the right friends' I told myself I must meet up with them more often!!!

Today was the Guides Initiative workshop- Boosting Self-Esteem and confidence building Workshop. Actually, I was very anxious because although we did discuss about it, I didn't have a chance to tell my leaders the finer details. I only emailed them but they didn't really get back to me. So I was worried. I smsed them and they told me that everything was in order. I was relieved but I was still a tad anxious because this was our first time conducting a Self-esteem workshop.
Fortunately, everything ran so smoothly. I had booked the AVA room earlier but I was afraid that someone would lay claim to it. I didn't have my entry card. Fortunately, my best pal, Deepa was in school today so I borrowed the tag from her to get into the AVA room. Yeah! The laptop in the AVA room was working fine and all the guides brought their stuff. I am so pleased. What a good start!
I was worried that no one would turn up for the workshop but all of them turned up. Everything ran like clockwork. The leaders really knew their stuff and were so organised and worked together very well. They have shown themselves to be responsible, creative and conscientious. I know there are some conflicts among them but they managed to put aside their differences and work well together. I am so proud of them. They are just as good as Aurina's batch of leaders . I am so lucky. My leaders are superb!!!!
The participants were really well-behaved although some of them were rather cheeky but on the whole, I think they enjoyed themsleves. Next year, we are going to choose a new batch of leaders. It will be difficult because there are so many potential candidates! We have to observe them carefully.
